WEEK May 13-17
Monday- Review types of figurative language in music/lyrics. Analyze different lyrics and list simile, metaphor, personification, allusion, onomatopoeia, alliteration, etc.
Tuesday- Finish music in lyrics lesson. Remember poetic devices are also in music! Introduce Figurative Language Video- show from video resources
Wednesday- Go through figurative video requirements, explain examples and begin creating sentences
Thursday- Generate 4 sentences (simile, metaphor, personification, and idiom or alliteration) and gather 8 pictures- Save to USB drive
Friday- Using Movie Maker create figurative language videos by following rubric guidelines

WEEK May 6-10
Monday- Students will use classroom's literature books to define 5 sound devices (Rhyme, Rhythm, Repetition, Onomatopoeia, and Alliterations). They will begin to classify 5 of 9 poems by their sound device elements pg 522.
Tuesday- Finish classifying 5 of 9 poems by sound devices. Then go over Wikispace outline for online portfolio and go through some examples from last year. You will create a poem for your electronic portfolio. This sound device poem will need to be 2 stanzas long, a minimum of 6 lines, and present 3 of 5 sound devices. Then you need to write 1-2 sentences about how the sound devices affect the mood and tone. Example:The sound devices in this poem affect the mood because...
Wednesday-Students will define the elements of a Haiku poem from the video resources. Then they will analyze 2 Haiku poems on pages 576 and 581. They will then create their own Haiku based on nature.
Thursday- Students will define the 5 types of figurative language (simile, metaphor, personification, symbols, and idiom). They will use videos to look at figurative language represented in song lyrics. They will need to select a song to post to our classroom's Blog for Friday. This will need to list the song title, artist, post the section of the song and describe the type(s) of figurative language represented.
Friday-students will post their song lyrics with figurative language to our blog. Then they will analyze 4 of 6 poems from our textbook by their types of figurative language.
***At the end of your unit you will need to complete your electronic portfolio of poetry***
